Tattoo Removal After Care: The Do’s And Don’ts

The process of tattoo removal is designed to be as efficient and pain-free as possible, with the highest quality equipment delivering not only top-level results in terms of a clean finish on your skin but also keeping the cost of removal down in terms of how long it takes to complete. But the process doesn’t end when the laser is switched – our team is only able to take the removal process so far before we hand the reigns back to you to restore the skin to its former glory.

As part of our service, we combine tattoo removal in London with comprehensive aftercare advice and support – with this blog sharing the do’s and don’ts of tattoo removal in terms of how best to nurture and protect your skin directly after treatment and throughout the healing process.

The Do’s…

The first and most important piece of advice that we share with all of our clients is to ensure that you avoid direct sun exposure for up to six weeks before and after a laser tattoo removal treatment. This is because tattoo removal is infinitely more effective on natural and evenly coloured skin, with the results often becoming skewed by the increased levels of pigment in tanned skin. With regards to sun exposure after your treatment, again it is important that you protect yourself as skin which has undergone laser tattoo removal treatment is much weaker and therefore more liable to intense burning.

The other major instruction that we give all our clients is to keep treated skin well moisturised and to apply a topical emollient from a chemist to prevent the skin from crusting over and scarring.

The Don’ts

There is one big “don’t” when it comes to tattoo removal aftercare, and it has to do with picking. Skin that has been treated can, in some cases, start to crust over a peel a little. This is a natural response and should be counteracted with a topical emollient and moisturising – however, if you pick it then you are leaving your skin exposed to potential scarring.

Can You Tattoo Over A Removal Site?

Contrary to popular belief, it is perfectly possible to tattoo over a former removal site – in fact, tattoo replacement is one of the most popular reasons for getting a tattoo removed in the first place. It is advised that you wait as long as possible before layering a new tattoo over a treated site and that you continue to moisturise and maximise your body’s hydration levels to counterbalance blistering and cracking across the treatment site.

If you’ve got more questions about tattoo removal or want to discuss your own situation with a member of our team, we’re more than happy to help. Alternatively, you can check out the FAQs on our website, browse the before and after shots from former clients, and learn more about our high-level equipment via our website.
